Letters from Our Readers:

In a message dated January 2, 2010: Alice Carrasquillo writes to Rockaway Memories

Dear Mr. Nislick,

My name is Alice. Both of my parents had strong ties to Far Rockaway. My father, MARK RIEGEL, lived in Far Rockaway from birth untill the 1950s. He graduated from Far Rockaway High School in either 1939 or 1940. He always mentioned Anabelle and Lawrence Silverberg as his friends.

My grandmother MOLLIE SLOTNIK owned a restaurant called Mollie's Luncheonette. The address was 57-21 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. The phone number was 718 BE 5-9692. I believe it closed in 1957. I have a photo showing her standing outside the restaurant with a sign that said "Start your day right with Mollie's breakfast." She lived in Wavecrest Gardens in building 20-40. I have many fond memories of the apartment and the neighborhood. She has been gone for many years but the fond memories are always in my heart. I would love to hear from anyone that remembers her. She was a very special woman.

My email address is: jeffalicepu@verizon.net

Thank you for your time.

Alice Carrasquillo
