Letters from Our Readers:

In a message dated November 19, 2009, Allan Bline writes to the Webmaster

Hello! Congratulations on your wonderful and informative website. My name is Allan Bline and I live in the Rockaways. I did not grow up in the Rockaways nor did I attend Rockaway schools. I was raised in Brooklyn and my grandparents had a home in Rockaway Park when I was growing up and my family used to visit them on weekends during the summer months so we could go to the beach. That was about 40 years ago back in the late 1950s. I have always enjoyed the ocean. My grandmother died about two years ago and I inherited her home. I tried to sell it for awhile but the market is very weak right now so I gave up my apartment in the city and moved out to Rockaway. I am happy here and plan to stay. I came across your website in May while I was doing some computer research on home market values and real estate agents and I have to admit the more I visit your site, the more I am intrigued by it.

I don't know if you accept suggestions. Here is what I have to offer. I notice you have several books of postcards posted on your site. I have looked at every book at least twice. I have to be honest and admit that I seldom read the text. Like I said before Rockaway is not my hometown. However I live here now and I would like to participate in your page. I inherited several volumes of old photo albums. Most of the pictures are of the family and are taken inside the house so they would be of no value to you. However, my grandmother also saved postcards and I have many you have not posted in those postcard books.

What I suggest is a weekly column by me, entitled POSTCARD OF THE WEEK and I would select a variety of interesting cards and you could display a different one each week on the page. I could write up something (very short) about the card as sort of a caption. Most of the cards would be cards you don't already have but every once and awhile I might include a card you have already shown but I don't think too many people will notice. You must have about 1,000 cards displayed already so I don't think anyone will notice if a particular card is repeated.

In addition, I would be willing to help any of your readers with anything they might want to contribute to the site. If someone has something he or she wants to show but they don't want their name used I could run the photo or article under my name or I would give the person credit if they prefer it that way or we could even share the billing. Some people are very shy, you know.

Let me know what you think of my idea. If I don't hear from you I will assume you didn't like what I had to say and offer. No big deal. However, I really do enjoy your site. I am even considering making it my homepage for my computer. Thanks for providing so much enjoyment and the fact it is all free makes it even more valuable.
