Carole Waxman Cohen at the 50 Year Reunion of the FRHS Class of 1959, Inset - Carole's High School Graduation Photo

Hi Marty,

I can’t tell you how touched I am by your post of my mom’s passing. So many of her fellow alumni have not just sent cards but have written notes telling me how much she had meant to Rockaway and to all of them. My mom was a devout Rockaway resident, despite the many times I tried to get her to move. She worked so hard along with Karen Klein Lutzker to plan their recent 50th reunion. There were times before that when she was in the hospital due to complications from her illness where I would hear her tell the doctors that she better be out soon, she has a reunion to plan. She even made several phone calls from the hospital to keep the plans moving. Fortunately she was well enough to attend and she and all her friends had a fantastic time.

I know how much she enjoyed reminiscing of the good old days in Rockaway and was the unofficial tour guide when friends came back in town and wanted to see the Rockaway of today. They say that when you leave Rockaway you never really leave and you always have sand in your shoes. I can only hope that now my mom is strolling along the boardwalk with a frozen custard, enjoying the place she always loved so much.

With warm regards,

Dori Cohen, FRHS class of ‘81.
