Ike

I was very surprised to see your name and photo (still have red hair!) when I read the last Rockaway Memories website today. It has been a very long time since we last connected. I don"t think we saw or played together since we graduated FRHS in 1955. I occasionally think fondly of the old days growing up on Beach 28th street, and you were one of my buddies that often comes to mind.

If it matters, I concur fully with your thoughts that growing up where we did influenced our adaptation to the wider world as we matured. We did lead a sheltered life despite being within the geographic limits of one of the most vibrant cities in the world. However, we were able to emerge with enthusiasm, helped by having NYC DNA in our systems.

Your brief resume on the website is quite impressive. I did leave NYC for good in 1963 and headed for California, where I live to this day. I am a retired Radiologist, currently living in La Jolla.

I look forward to your future columns on the website.

Ed (or should I say Eddie) Janon
