Letters from Our Readers:

In a message dated August 28, 2009, Helen Georges writes to Marty Nislick

Dear Marty,

Hi! This is from Helen Georges (Dean and Greg's older sister) and I think I have some things that will interest you.
A 1951 (yearbook) Class Album for the kids that graduated in JAN '51.

I think there was a teachers' strike ( before teachers' union existed) and the yearbook is a very little, soft covered, collection of grads' photos and some events that had been photographed. That might have been the last "mid year" graduation year book and possibly the only one.

I also have a Far Rockaway "BOOSTERS" emblem/patch that I created for the newly formed group of lots of female students who didn't make Cheerleaders or Majorettes. The "Boosters" were at the first televised HS football game (we lost) but those girls were heard by all of NY, and mentioned constantly by the sports announcers for their spirit, enthusiasm, and just plain LOUD cheering throughout the game! They also became the "greeters" on Open School Day/Night.

If you are interested, I will give them to Dean for his next meeting with you.

I think you are doing a great job.
Lots of luck!
Helen
