From John Fitzgerald to
Rockaway Memories, Dated March 23, 2011:
Dear Marty,
Several of us from Fitzgerald's ended up in the
oil business in the 70's.
I went to Africa in offshore construction after getting out of
the Air Force. I got my younger brother Robert involved in offshore
work. We spent many years in Asia (Indonesia, Singapore, etc.)
and came back to Houston in the 90's. Robert and I still live
here in Houston with our families. Robert is involved in getting
wells drilled and I work on the development side, mostly in deepwater
projects around the world. My son John is now also working as
a marine engineer on a large semisubmersible for a deepwater drilling
contractor.
We still visit Rockaway from time to time and our sister Margaret
(Meg) has one of the remaining Rockaway bungalows on Beach 109th
St.
I don't have a lot of photos but here are some
old nice ones with my dad: Jack Fitzgerald (AKA: John P. Fitzgerald),
uncle Tommy and my grandfather at Fitzgerald's. I will try and
dig up some more.
Regards and thanks,
John Fitzgerald
