From Vincent O'Brien to Rockaway Memories, Dated March 27, 2011:

Hi Marty,

Thanks for the fantastic "Irish Town" Album. I am from the Chelsea section of Manhattan. My mother made sure she got to Rockaway every summer. I can't remember not being there usually in the Seaside section around Beach 106th Street. But, if she couldn't find a bungalow there we'd wind up in just a room somewhere as far south as Beach 80th Street.

I did lots of drinking once I was old enough (about 16) in Irish Town. The places I frequented were Hickey's when it was on Beach 106th and the Blvd., O'Connors, on Beach 106th and St. Marks and again when it moved to Beach 90th Street.

My brother Donald O'Brien moved to Rockaway permanently in 1957 followed by my sister, Carol OBrien Lonergan, about 1964. All their kids grew up in Rockaway.
