Michelle I. Jaeger's

Far Rockaway Album

Looking south at Mott and Central. The "King George" was a coffee house which replaced Cushman's Bakery in the Smith Building. Across the street, the "John's Bargain Store" is now in the first floor storefront of what was Neve Furniture. This photo was taken around 1970. Photo credit: Michelle I. Jaeger

Looking northbound on Central Avenue -- you can see the newly-created Waldbaum's shopping center where the train station used to be. The store with the photo frames in the window was (but no longer is in this picture) Neveloff's Stationery. You can see the Pickwick awning (the "ck" is showing). Some of the original stores are still there. Probably from the same roll of film the photos above and below. Probably about 1970 -- or very soon after the Walbaum's Shopping Center was erected. This is BEFORE they closed down the street and widened the sidewalks. Most of the stores in the photo (right side) are torn down now. Photo credit: Michelle I. Jaeger

Looking north on Beach Channel Drive -- the "Channel Hall" was built as a Bohack Supermarket back in 1949 and the chain closed up sometime in 1967/68 and then a Bingo Parlor took over the building immediately afterwards. Photo credit: Michelle I. Jaeger
