Letters from Our Readers:

In a message dated August 8, 2010, Ken Bender writes to Rockaway Memories

Hi Marty,

Thanks, so very much, for investing so much of your time, talent and energy in the Rockaway web site. It has brought countless smiles to my face, and a flood of memories – Sunday morning buying lox at Toddies, coffee cake at Elfenbein’s Bakery, a late Saturday night french fries and vanilla coke at the State Diner, a crisp fall day with burning leaves in the air and the sound of the FRHS band as I made my way down Oceancrest to see Far Rock play Stuyvesant (and usually lose!!!), veal parmesan at Cosmo Pacetta’s.

But my fondest memories were summer, at Roche's, running free every day, stealing my first kiss while dancing to the concession juke box (“Love Me Tender”) as my mother remained glued to the table with the “girls” playing Canasta. I hope the following poem helps rekindle some memories.

Ken Bender (FRHS, 1963)
