Photo #11 is taken from the raised platform of the NYC - Rapid Transit Subway System -- showing the O'Kane Building in the background. This picture is included just to give you some idea of from where the photographer is aiming his camera.

Photo #12 is taken (facing due north) from the same subway platform and shows the deplorable state the O'Kane Building is in today - but be certain to notice the "old house" on the west or left side of the picture. Those buildings in the background at the right side of the photo are the "storage" buildings across the street located behind the shopping center.

It is always my pleasure to share with you some of my feelings and recollections about my hometown. Again, I am not the self-appointed historian for Far Rockaway. Like you, I lived and grew up here and I have very special memories of the place. This community has seen many drastic changes over the past six decades and most likely, it will see many more major changes in the years to come. It is my hope and desire that somehow and someway we may document what came before and what is today — which is why I try to get back to this place for a visit at least once a year. Of course, I don't live too far away and that makes my journey possible. It is vital we support websites such as this one because it is through venues such as this we are able to maintain and preserve the memories of places and people that made up our lives - so very long ago.
