Let's Hear It For The Girl

Nancy Lieberman

Often regarded as one of the greatest figures in women's basketball, it was while still attending Far Rockaway High School that Nancy Lieberman earned one of only twelve slots on the USA National Olympic Team. Nancy would later compete in the World Championships and Pan American Games, winning silver (1976+79) and gold (1975) medals.

The recipient of many trophies and awards during her four years in attendance at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, Nancy earned her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in May of 1980. She secured a position on the 1980 Olympic team but withdrew from competition in support of the United States boycott of the Summer Moscow Olympics.

Lieberman left college in 1980 to embark upon a professional career in basketball - joining teams such as the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Pro Basketball League, a men's league known as the United States Basketball League; she would (later) also play for the Washington Generals.

In year 2000, Nancy Lieberman was inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame. She is also a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Indeed, a sparkling career for our very special lady!

Still active in the sports arena, Nancy currently resides in Dallas, Texas.
