Hi Dean!! What a great site. These are memories that will last forever. We go WAAAY back together and I am in awe of this wonderful site. BTW The only art class I ever enjoyed was Miss Georges. The flowers were always the best.

what a great collection. There must be a way to get this in a book form. Great work by Dean Georges would love to see some "family" pictures of the Georges and their contribution to the rockaway peninsula.

I'll never forget a picture I saw on the internet of Rockaway taken in '69. If you clicked on the picture the snow came down I cried I knew I lived in Rockaway then. I left NY in '71 that was my only bad day in the Rockaways. I went to P.S. 44, 183, 225, & JHS 180. What was the name of the store on the corner of P.S.44. Thank you all for brining NY to me. Rockaway is loved by so many people and cultures. I loved Playland I laugh now I was so scared of the Haunted House....LOL

What collection of postcards and pics. I lived on Holland Avenue between 90th & 91st, a block from the beach. Irish Town was my stomping grounds, The Irish Circle, 103rd RB Blvd. Mermaid Inn, McNulty’s on 109th and The Last Stop on Beach Channel Dr. and 116th St. Gilroy’s on RB Blvd and 90th St. I went to PS44 which was torn down a long time ago. 198 JHS in Arverne, then on to FRHS. Anyone remember Mr. Seirer, Swim Coach? 1959 was his last year, Allie Metzger took over temporarily after that. I graduated in 1960.
Rockaway’s Playland was a short walk away, I remember the Fun House, it had a walkway facing the mid-way for everyone to see that went up and down and had the air blow hole that would raise the ladies dresses. The penny arcade and the stand where you could take your picture by shooting the center target. I use to shoot from the side and have someone stand with a mirror and the gun over their shoulder. We moved to Wavecrest in Far Rockaway, I worked on the corner of Central Ave (Bch. 20th) and Cornaga Ave. with Chase Manhattan Bk. The bowling alley upstairs and the Pickwick Restaurant. There was a movie theatre right next to the bank and another one along Mott St. Great pictures and memories.

I remember the "GOOD OLD DAYS in ROCKAWAY BEACH". I fremember the Restaurants, Far Rockaway, and Central Avenue the Shopping, stores, Movie Houses. I also had Ms. Helen Georges as my Art Teacher at JHS 198, in Arverne. I was in the 1957 Graduating Class, and would love to hear from my "OLD CLASSMATES!" The Summers were great, tne Beaches beautiful, the Friends and Neighbors were AWESOME!Unfortunately, those days, our children & grandchildren will never know.

What a wonderful beginning of Dean Georges'postcard collection. I am waiting with bated breath to see them! Thank you Dean for sharing! I always knew Dean looking out for true Rockaway relics when he and I were were bidding on the same card - and I purposely backed away but watched in awe, as he is the epitome of the true Rockaway collectors out there!
Thank you Marty for sharing and working so hard on this endeavor. It is truly a work of art! And thank you to Dean and all those who contribute to this site.
